SUMMARY:Morning discussion with special guest Ken Miller: Navigating Evolution Education
DESCRIPTION:Discussion: Navigating Evolution Education: Bridging Cultural and Religious Perspectives\nKen Miller\, Professor Emeritus of Biology at Brown University\nWednesday\, October 16 at 10:30 – 11:30 AM in Stephens Room (Thomas 3503). Dr. Miller will be meeting with graduate students on the same day from 2:15-2:25 PM; please sign up here.  \n\n\nKen Miller is a cell biologist and professor emeritus of biology at Brown University but he his best known for his work discussing teaching evolution and the relationship between science and religion. Miller was co-author with Joseph S. Levine on four popular biology textbooks\, used in schools across the country. His co-authorship of these textbooks led to Millers involvement in science advocacy when he was called as a witness in several court cases in the early 2000s disputing the teaching of intelligent design in science curriculums. Since these appearances\, Miller has written three books on the topics of evolution and religion\, the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District court case\, and human evolution and reason. \n\n\n\nHosted by the Genetics and Genomics Academy (GGA) in collaboration with the GES Center\, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences\, and the Interdisciplinary Studies\, Biological Sciences\, and Philosophy and Religious Studies departments at NC State.
