Bio

Nick Loschin, PhD, is a biological scientist and risk analyst with USDA APHIS Biotechnology Regulatory Services and a longtime member of the GES community. He earned his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology from NC State in 2026 under the mentorship of Khara Grieger. As an AgBioFEWS Fellow, he also completed the Graduate Minor in Genetic Engineering and Society.

Nick has contributed to numerous GES research, education and engagement projects. His work focuses on environmental governance, risk assessment, regulatory oversight and responsible innovation for emerging biotechnologies in food and agriculture. His dissertation, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Strengthen Environmental Governance for Genetic Engineering in Food and Agriculture, examined how governance systems can better keep pace with rapidly evolving GE tools.
