Assistant/Associate or Full Professor, Genetic Engineering and Society Cluster
Posted: 11/17/2025 | Anticipated Hiring Range: $90,000 – $135,000
The Genetic Engineering and Society (GES) Center, part of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program (CFEP) at NC State University, is recruiting a tenure-track faculty member to join one of the nation’s premier interdisciplinary hubs examining the societal dimensions of biotechnology.
We seek applicants whose scholarship bridges disciplines and advances understanding of the ethical, legal, policy, cultural, or social implications of emerging technologies. We are particularly interested in candidates working in one or more of these intersectional research domains:
- Artificial Intelligence and Biosecurity — governance models, risk frameworks, dual-use concerns, ethical design, trust and accountability systems.
- Genetics/Genomics — data privacy, public engagement, risk governance, legal and policy dimensions.
- Novel Food Proteins & Sustainability — alternative proteins, food system transitions, socio-environmental implications, equity and access in emerging protein technologies.
The successful candidate will be appointed 50% in a disciplinary home department and 50% in the GES Center, contributing to GES undergraduate/graduate teaching, collaborative proposal development, and the Center’s executive committee. This structure enables deep disciplinary work alongside high-impact interdisciplinary collaborations with partners across NC State—including the Genetics & Genomics Academy, Plant Sciences Initiative, and the Bezos Center for Sustainable Proteins—as well as broader networks across the Research Triangle.
This CFEP position includes enhanced institutional support, competitive salary, and opportunities to shape national conversations on responsible innovation.
