NC State University has launched a search for a new faculty member to join the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program (CFEP) with the Genetic Engineering and Society (GES) Cluster. The Office of the Provost is recruiting for this tenure-track position, which represents a university-level investment in interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of genetic, genomic, and emerging biotechnologies and the societal contexts in which they develop.

The GES Cluster brings together scholars from diverse academic backgrounds to examine how biotechnology shapes—and is shaped by—social, environmental, and policy contexts.
The selected candidate will hold a tenure-track or tenured appointment in a relevant academic department. The position contributes to GES’s integrated mission of research, teaching, engagement, graduate training, and participation in cluster-wide initiatives.
Ideal candidates will help GES expand its reach into artificial intelligence, biosecurity, and/or novel food proteins, with an emphasis on the ethical, legal, policy, or societal dimensions of these areas.

As part of the GES Cluster, the new faculty member will join colleagues examining how biotechnology interacts with social, environmental, and policy systems.
Responsibilities include conducting research that advances understanding of the societal dimensions of biotechnology; teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; contributing to graduate training; participating in GES and CFEP cluster activities; pursuing external funding; and engaging with relevant academic, policy, or professional communities.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field and show a strong record—or strong potential—for scholarly productivity and interdisciplinary collaboration. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
